Catching myself getting carried away about Palestine/Israel
Luckily, there’s a Gumpcast episode for that
First of all thank you all so much for the amount of support for my last email. I’m floored and deeply humbled by how many of you reached out to help. Thank you!
Secondly, I’ve been getting carried away by the Gaza situation, the Hamas attack and what is now an all out retaliation war waged by the Israeli government.
Here’s a breath of fresh air:
I see so many influencers and people I admire “standing by Israel” and that makes me so angry. I ,of course, have my own biases as an Arab who grew up on the border of Israel and Gaza. I have and always will “Stand with Palestine”.
Over the past two days I find myself immersed in social media playing wackamole with every pro Israeli post, trying to use whatever clout I have to represent the other side. That can’t be healthy and it is creating a lot of anxiety for sure in my brain that is already fried.
I will continue to do that though because I am acutely aware of the strife of the Palestinian people. My parents have experienced wars between Egypt and Israel in 67 and 73 and I grew up with these stories. However I am also aware of how entities like Hamas create constricted narratives and bloodshed (not just for Israel but for the Arab world as well).
I don’t support Hamas or the Muslim brotherhood or any fanatic regime. By the same token, I think the Zionest government is the most fanatic and extremist of all.
However, that doesn’t mean that the Israelis that have been killed deserve it at all. This is part of the global chess game that has us all sacrificing our lives for the purpose of governments and businesses that do not cherish human life. We are all sacrificing something of our humanity and some part of our bodies to serve them.
The Israelis and Palestinians are sacrificing their whole bodies this week for this age old “Power Over” mentality.
If America really cares about human rights (as someone who lives in her I can assure you that she doesn’t) she would have dismantled both the Israeli government and Hamas by now because they both have commit atrocities that should not stand.
That being said all we can do is post and fight on social media as the real war is waged against both peoples and the generational hate is deepened and the gap widened.
So I want to leave you with an episode I started Season II of the Gumpcast with about nationalism and why a two state solution may have run its course, from law professor and formed PLO peace negotiator Omar Dajani, and some fresh and brave ideas about “a land for all”👇
Full episode is available for free and would love to hear your thoughts and how you are coping with this news this week.
