How to Stop Beating Yourself Up [S3 Finale]
Join us on Monday 16th in SF at 7pm. Chats, tea, and music.
3.15 am. Eyes wide open.
“Your 37th birthday is coming up and you are doing way worse financially than when you were 27.”
3.45 am. Twisting. Turning. Shaking it off.
“Why are you so far away from home? Your parents are not getting any younger, why are you choosing to live this life in the Bay Area? You’ve lost so many people over the past four years, there has to be something wrong with you"
4.30 am. Heart racing. ‘Lub-dub-d-dub-lub-dub’.
I place a hand on top of my chest.
“Look at your friends around you, they’re either making $200k+ a year or have raised millions of dollars. Stop working on this stupid company idea and go find a real job. You’re neither a successful entrepreneur nor a successful writer. Look at the price of bitcoin…” etc.etc.etc.
5.00 am. Night sweats. Fuck it. White flag. You win.
I get up and make coffee.
Water boils in the open kitchen space.
The room is still pitch black under the dark winter sky.
I start journaling.
As the sweet aroma of Colombian beans fills the open dining space, I wrap myself up in a blanket and stare out of the window with a journal I bought from Guatemala. It features a hand-drawn turtle, reminding me to slow down.
A Santa Claus hangs over the glass pane with a big smile. He reminds me of the melancholy I always experience during this time of year. Lucky you, obese white grandpa. I flinch at the thought of me being the Grinch. Why can’t I be happy like good ol’ merry Santa? It seems simple.
Hell can be a lonely place.
Well, Santa won’t have any answers for me, but my last guest of the season, psychiatrist Andrew Chacko, just might.
We have six tickets left for our last show of the season! Join us one last time as Dr. Chacko reveals the power of self-acceptance and breaks down his new approach to negative self-talk.
If you are in the Bay Area, please join us on December 16th.
I’d love to meet you in person and you’ll get to ask a pioneer of psychiatry and trauma anything you might want and meet some fellow travelers on the journey towards self-acceptance. RSVP before the tickets run out.
PLUS! For this finale, we’re upgrading the audio experience!
🎧 Participants will be the first to test out personalized headsets, delivering music and conversation streamed straight to their headphones for an unparalleled auditory experience. 🎧
“Your life is your life,
Don’t let it be clubbed into dank submission.
Be on the watch,
There are ways out.”
Charles Bukowski
I will also post my last essay of the year on the 3 phases of Emotional Recovery next Sunday before we break for Christmas and announce what is in store for 2025!
But first, let me make another cup of coffee and wrestle some more with Monsieur Noel. 🥊🎅🏻
Much love.
Thank you for being here.
