Righteous Mind Meditation
Make space for your feelings, so that you can make space for others.
The following is a meditation.
It is a journey into your righteous mind, with the intention of feeling and experiencing the relief that comes with allowing yourself to really feel your feelings.
You don’t need to close your eyes or breathe in any particular way.
Just give me your attention for a little bit more as your read the following sentences.
Take a few deep breaths. Chill the fuck out, breathe, relax, come back to your center, just chill.the.fuck.out for a few moments with me.
Ok, allow yourself to be here…now.
Your thoughts may take you elsewhere, that is ok, but bring it back.
Stay with me.
See if you’re willing to be and witness yourself…
right in this moment as your read this.
Stay with me. Stay here.
Now think of something in your life that you want to change.
A person, a circumstance, or a situation. Something you are not satisfied with, in its current state.
Now let it play in your mind.
Hear the sounds, see the images of this issue.
What is it about this issue that you want to be right about?
Stop for a moment until you have something.
Think about it.
OK now let yourself be as right as you want to be.
Yes, allow it…Allow that part of you that wants to be right, to get it what it wants!
Forget about any kind of correctness. This is your safe and private space, feel the emotions.
What are they? Anger? Happiness? Frustration? Feel it!
Welcome the part of you that wants to be right. Allow yourself to be totally right. Revel in the happiness of that.
That is your elephant. Get to know it. Play with it. It is right regardless of what anyone things. You don’t need to explain it, and you don’t need to prove it.
It really just is. You feel a certain way.
Take it all in. Enjoy it.
Acknowledge it. Let it know that it is heard.
There is no need to resist it or change it.
Now see if you can just at this moment, let that feeling of being right aside.
See, if just for a moment, you would be willing to let go of proving that you are right.
See if you are willing to rest beyond being right.
Let that person or the circumstance, be the way it is.
Just, let it be.
For another second.
How did that feel when you are a little less invested in being right.
If you did everything I said, you should be able to experience a little bit more peace.
You do not need the acknowledgment of your feelings from others, because you can give that to yourself.
