People love talking about archetypes. In many circles, the awareness of archetypes is very much embedded into every day life. However, for many others, it’s kind of a big question mark, or this very psychology-mumbo-jumbo kinda thing.
And they’re everywhere! We find the archetypes in tarot cards, in virtually any movie we’ve ever seen or story we’ve ever read. Oh yeah, and every moment of existence we can understand our experience through the helpful lens of, yes, you guessed it: the archetypes.
The amount of recently created content on the subject on youtube alone is astounding. A quick youtube search showed me opportunities to learn about every aspect of archetypes, from the Jungian definition, to their existence in fiction and pop culture, to even videos helping people understand how archetypes show up in their own lives. And because of the plethora of content out there, I’ll save you any instruction or definition of the topic.
We will, however, add some new juice to the topic. We humbly, excitedly, and fantastically present before you all, a new writer’s series on the subject of archetypes. Yes, we will be posting a new short story every week for the next five weeks.
Rather than an intellectual conversation on an archetype, we’ll share a story from one of our writers, that explore the subject of one of the main archetypes we find in human psychology. The ones being explored here will be that explored by “In Search of Gumption”: King, Lover, Magician, Warrior, and Father.
So why talk about archetypes? I’m so glad you asked. Understanding how a particular archetype shows up in our lives and in the people and characters we may meet in real life or fiction, we can understand ourselves better. They can help us connect with a specific energy we may want to conjure for a particular moment in our lives. Maybe we need to do what must be done, caution be dammed: call on the warrior. Maybe we need to do some deep introspection into our own hearts to help us understand some recent heartache: call upon the magician. Yes, archetypes can help us with all of this!
So pour yourself a hot drink, and join us for the next five Sundays. We’d love to hear what you think of this idea!
Until next week, friends. <3
