Two Recommendations below (with a LOT of extra commentary, because you know me...)

Because you are in Mexico you should read "Love in the Time of Cholera" by Gabriel García Márquez. (but not in the original Spanish... not yet anyway!)

Another Historical fiction that is a FAVORITE of mine is "Pillars of the Earth" by Ken Follett - (there are two others in the "series" published after)

I just checked the spelling of his last name and found this review: "One of the most enjoyable aspects of The Pillars of the Earth are the themes which Follett incorporates into the telling of this story. The importance and hindrance of family bonds, loyalty, betrayal, love, and exploring the concepts of death and religion are all themes which are explored within this book's pages" Seems like it is up your alley! Also, the three books were published in 2007, 2017 and 2020 - which I find interesting because they seem to be written because the author wanted to do it well and not because it was selling well.

Pillars of the Earth looks incredible! I will have to make space for that one day. Love in the time of the cholera is one of the those novels that I never read but feel like I know so much about it because of how much I've heard of it. I will check it out! Thanks Jill! This is so awesome. Great to have you here!

Sweet Home Alabama! I share the surprise. Loved the updates. Historical fiction I really liked and possibly in that order

1- A gentle man in Moscow

2- A code name Helene

3- Homegoing

4-ثلاثية غرناطة

5-سيدة الزمالك

Fiction:

I have recently read قنديل أم هاشم and highly recommend it. It is a short story anyway.
