Greetings from Norway!
I am here for a wedding.
Despite being Best Man and having a lot of responsibilities and excuses not write, I keep finding pockets of time to finish the novel and ship it.
I am excited to put the 4th draft of my novel into the hands of Beta Readers in a few days.
I don’t feel burned out when I do that.
I feel charged up and excited to socialize again.
Writing has become a close friend that I miss.
A good sign of gumption!
If you missed the announcement before and would like to be a Beta reader for the novel, please reply to this email to let me know.
When we are creating and aligned with a project, finding gumption requires much less effort.
It requires more effort for me to NOT write.
This creates its own set of complexities but more on that and the relationship between health and creativity next Sunday after I have recovered!
Today I waned to share with you a quick routine that works for me when I need to get into a creative zone.
This has been doing wonders for me when I need new insights.
It is not something I do everyday, but I do this when I need a boost. (Probably once a month or so.)
1- 20 min Movement (yoga/walk/qigong) - to engage the body.
2- 10 min Breathwork session - to surface the emotions.
3- 20 min Meditate - to integrate the insights.
Then I sit and write for 50 mins.
You can use youtube for all of those and find your favorite.
This is just something that I noticed works for me and wanted to share with you today.
Play with the sequence, the content, and the timings based on your needs and experimentation.
This might work for you, but even better… it would inspire a different combo that works for you.
If you have your own process to create, I would love to hear about it!
Please share it in the comments or reply to this email
Next Sunday, I will release a new essay about creativity and how it relates to your trauma.
Prepare for all your excuses to be taken away from you!
I leave you with this poem about creativity
And just in case you missed the latest Gumpcast episode about Somatics - check it out:
See you next Sunday,
Omar
